Easter celebrates the resurrection of Jesus Christ, and many Christians
go to church at this time. In the Northern Hemisphere, it is spring
during Easter, whereas it is autumn in the Southern Hemisphere. As
Australia is in the Southern Hemisphere, it is an autumn Easter in
Australia. Australian Easter celebrations incorporate both autumn and
spring themes. Australian Easter decorations also integrate native
animals, especially bilbies as they look like bunnies.
Around the
world, Easter celebrations vary, but they all involve entertaining
activities. In Australia, Easter is celebrated over a four-day long
weekend — from Good Friday until Easter Monday. Many schools in
Australia, the UK and the USA hold Easter hat parades. The children
decorate hats or bonnets with colourful flowers, Easter eggs, ribbons,
and beautiful craft items for the parades with the help of teachers, and
parents and carers.
Also, schools, families and communities hold
exciting Easter egg hunt activities. You may choose to hide plastic
eggs or painted foam eggs which can be exchanged for chocolates once all
the hidden eggs have been found and after the children have washed
their hands. The locations of where you hide the eggs should be varied
according to the ages of the children. Families and friends enjoy eating hot cross buns and chocolate Easter eggs and other delicious dishes at gatherings.
In addition, children enjoy
Easter colouring activities, here are the Katherina Giselle Easter
colouring pages. They can be downloaded and printed to keep children
entertained during Easter.
